Book Slams Retirement Communities

The Wall Street Journal calls it a "darker view of sunny retirement." Andrew D. Blechman's book "Leisureville: Adventures in America's Retirement Utopias" hits at these senior-oriented properties that offer a relaxing lifestyle in the elder years.

Blechman's thesis, in part, is that such properties segregate the elder population, effectively removing them from civic participation in the greater world. Among his assertions is the theory that Villages developer Gary Morse has had tight control over decision-making across the greater community, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
