InterContinental Hotels Plans 19 New Atlanta Hotels

The InterContinental Hotels Group is planning 19 new facilities for metropolitan Atlanta in the coming years, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The hotel group, which is based in London but has its U.S. base in Atlanta, says these plans will bring more than 1,000 to the metro Atlanta area.

The planned hotel projects include a Crowne Plaza in the Streets of Buckhead mega-development, as well as Hotel Indigos in downtown and College Park. Rumors that the company will open an InterContinental in Midtown have not been confirmed.

Office leasing is starting to slow around the United States , but the Atlanta market is faring better than most, a Grubb & Ellis Inc. researcher told CPN. “Atlanta overall seems to be faring pretty well despite some of the concerns about the economy,” noted Dan Wagner, research manager in Grubb & Ellis’ Atlanta office. “When we’re in a slow economic growth period, Atlanta always seems to experience a shallower type of slow growth.”
