Cambridge to be Location of New EMD Chemicals Lab
May 8, 2008

Gibbstown, N.J.-headquartered EMD Chemicals Inc. has revealed that it will open its newest R&D facility in Cambridge, within close proximity to both Harvard University and MIT. The company, a division of Germany's Merck KGaA, has not disclosed specifics of the location, but it has revealed that the site will be Merck's first North American facility focused on materials sciences. State-of-the-art lab space comes at somewhat of a premium in Cambridge, with average asking rents having reached $51.97 per-square-foot at the close of 2007, according to a CB Richard Ellis report. EMD staff is expected to take occupancy at the new center during the third quarter.
