Wal-Mart's Chicago Plans Dashed

Wal-Mart has hit a wall when it comes to making Chicago a jumping-off point for urban expansion, according to the Chicago Tribune. City officials last month said that Mayor Richard Daley wasn't game for a potentially messy series of union conflicts while the city is still in the running for the 2016 Olympics.

Now Wal-Mart is looking outside the city limits, hoping that the thousands of middle- to low-income residents there will be more receptive to its discount pricing. Among the suburbs under consideration are Calumet Park, Cicero, and McCook.
