Philadelphia Considers Hotel Tax Increase
May 7, 2008
Source: Philadelphia Business Journal

The Philadelphia mayor's office is considering a 1 percent increase in taxes on hotel stays, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal. Currently 14 percent, the increased tax revenue would be used for regional marketing efforts and split between the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp., and the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Two years ago, there was a debate as to whether hotel taxes should be raised from 14 percent to 14.9 percent, but officials chose to keep the tax stable. There are a total of 15,000 hotel guest rooms in Philadelphia.
