Law Firm Makes Move to 185,000SF Digs in New 52-Story NYT Building

Boston-headquartered law firm Goodwin Procter has settled into its new 185,000-square-foot home at the 1.6 million-square-foot New York Times Building. The firm signed a 15-year lease on the space, which spans six floors of the 52-story tower. Situated at 620 Eighth Ave., the Renzo Piano-designed building is a co-development project of Forest City Ratner Cos. and The New York Times Co., and now serves as the newspaper's headquarters. For Goodwin Procter, the relocation marks a significant expansion from its previous 100,000-square-foot locale at 599 Lexington Ave.

Emeritus to Lease 11 Seniors Housing Properties from HCP

Assisted living services provider Emeritus Corp. will soon bring a new group of seniors housing properties under its umbrella now that it has signed an agreement with affiliates of HCP Inc. to lease 11 communities accounting for an aggregate 1,462 units in six states from California to Massachusetts. The lease carries a 10-year term and allows Emeritus the option to acquire the assets during the period commencing with the close of the fifth year of the lease until its expiration. If the company decides to acquire the portfolio, the price tag will be a minimum $300 million.

The Alexandria Center for Science and Technology at Mission Bay, a behemoth 2.7 million-square-foot life science cluster being developed by Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc. in San Francisco, will become home to a division of Pfizer now that the pharmaceutical company has pre-leased 100,000 square feet at the property.
